This was a new design Willow Chair course that Gail Force adapted for this year. Taking willow grown from an overgrown hedge line here at the gallery we got the guys to cut to length and assemble these amazing chairs. Great skills being shown by the girls as usual. We have had such a busy July here at The Big Tree Society making spoons , stools and Hedge Chairs. Here's a random selection of folks at work in the Buy Design Gallery garden. We make these traditional or vernacular chairs in ash and sycamore in two days form a round log to finished piece. Always a great weekend event with loads of new skills learnt by everyone and always helped out by our two Big Tree tutors Gail Force and Makem Dave. A fantastic day making birch spoons with Big Tree pal Brian Mahler. Seven great participants worked their way through the process and made some beautiful work. Next Spoon carving day at the Big Tree is in September. Keep an eye out for some more days early next year. |
