Basket Making : 25th / 26th April 2026 FULLY BOOKED
Big Tree Society is delighted to be hosting a weekend of basket making this year with local basket maker Karla Pearce.
Join Karla to weave this beautiful, rustic ose or hen basket. Learn about the history of this Scottish basket and learn the skills required to make it, which include making a hoop, joining hoops, weaving with compensation, with the option of using bark and cordage along with willow.
Suitable for beginners or as a refresher if you've done some weaving before.
All courses are run from our Buy Design Gallery garden courtyard. It was the old Dairy and Milking yard for the estate farm in years past. Working outside and under cover makes it a great setting and as a space for learning and enjoyment.
We ask all participants to bring lunch, warm working clothes and strong sensible footwear. We gather up at 9.30 for a cuppa, meet the others and get started by 10, working through til about 5. If you need suggestions for accommodation see here .

Our courses are very popular and are usually fully booked months in advance.
In the event of you not being able to attend a course that you have booked and paid for, please tell us as soon as possible. We will always try and find someone else to take your place if we can. If we can't fill your place there is no refund or transfer to a later date. For late cancellations your payment is non-refundable and non-transferable.
